The Arts are Alive in Broward County

The arts breathe life into communities. The PNC Foundation, principally funded by the PNC Financial Services Group, has recognized this through its program, PNC Arts Alive! Since its debut in 2009, the program has awarded approximately $13 million in grants to cultural organizations in the regions served by PNC.

Recently, PNC launched the Arts Alive! program in Broward County, Florida, thus joining Central Ohio, Southern New Jersey, and Southern Illinois in the regional arts funding initiatives. Working with the local arts agency Broward Cultural Division, the PNC Foundation announced that it would award $150,000 to arts organizations in Broward, Duval, and Palm Beach over the period of three years. Organizations can apply for up to $10,000 in grants to support emerging arts programs and new voices. With these funds, arts organizations of the three counties will be able to increase audience participation in the visual and performing arts, engaging new audiences and expanding their reaches.

The celebration of the launch of PNC Arts Alive! was a mix of entertainers, arts advocates, local and national businessmen, and county and city officials, bringing a diverse crowd and new energy to the arts. Broward County is one of many wonderful places for support of an arts-driven community. With nearly 1.9 million residents, 13.4 million visitors, 10,000 artists, and 6,291 arts-related businesses which employ 23,498 people, the county is a hotspot for arts development.

PNC Regional President for Florida East, Cressman Bronson understands the gravity of supporting the developing phases of burgeoning arts organizations: “This half a million dollars can make a big difference for organizations of all sizes. We have an opportunity to help fill that (funding) gap while bringing new and exciting programs to South Florida's already vibrant arts community."

As a recipient of Americans for the Arts’ 2013 BCA 10 Award, recognizing each year’s ten best businesses partnering with the arts in America, PNC has continued its commitment to improving communities through the arts, helping people of all backgrounds to understand that the arts are very much alive.
