The Grand Champion Ham brought in a noteworthy six figure bid at the 50th Annual Country Ham Breakfast and Auction at the Kentucky State Fair on August 22. At stake for the bidders, mostly local corporations, was a 13.3 pounder from Harper’s Country Hams and the opportunity to contribute the proceeds of the winning bid to the charity of their choice. Yum! Brands Foundation, a committed supporter of the arts and a 2013 BCA 10: Best Business Partnering with the Arts in America honoree, placed the winning bid of $350,000. Angela Osting, Manager of the Yum! Foundation & Global Community Investment, announced that the proceeds from the auction would be given directly to the Fund for the Arts, a Louisville-based organization dedicated to promoting meaningful arts experiences by providing grants and resources for regional arts programs. The Yum! Brands Foundation has demonstrated continued support for the Fund, whose grants sponsor the Yum! Family Series, designed to nurture young talent and provide arts experiences for children.
Osting commented, “For us, it is very, very important as a company and as a foundation that we give back to the communities where we live and work," with Yum!'s total contribution breaking down to over $26,000 per pound of ham. The ham itself was donated to Dare to Care, a Louisville-based food bank.
Congratulations to Yum! for continuously proving to be one of the best businesses supporting the arts in America!
